Denali 5500 - "Held all my gear for snow-cave camping with room to spare! Incredibly comfortable and well balanced, hardly even knew it was on my back. Great hiking backpacks at an AMAZING value! Thank you!!" Joseph E.

"After a long hiatus from backpacking, I was thrilled when my sons expressed an interest and were old enough to go with me. One thing that was clear, though, was that some of my ancient hiking backpacks would need to be retired."

The Alps Mountaineering Extreme Aluminum Poles 3 Tent is a free standing aluminum pole tent, with a configuration that is extremely strong and sturdy. The 3-pole design gives you more "framework" to combat Mother Nature when she decides to send you a little stronger storm than normal. Assembly is easy with pole clips that quickly snap over the tent poles. The polyester fly and floor are urethane coated, with factory sealed seams for maximum weatherproofness. A door on each side of the tent makes getting in and out of the tent easy. You also get two large vestibules that you can use for extra gear storage. The vestibules also serve as automatic guy-out points when the weather gets a little nasty. The fly buckles to the tent, offering a much more secure attachment when compared to elastic cord. Extra large #8 zippers on the doors and vestibules add to the durability. Mesh roof vents increase ventilation and improve star gazing.

Kelty and North Face Tents Couldn't CompeteIt has been a while since I have contacted you about gear performance updates, and I wanted to provide you with an update on both my status and on the gear I have. First, I want to once again say thank you very much for providing me with the opportunity to test some of your gear. I have been Greatly impressed with the performance of everything and still continue to discuss it with other campers I am teaching or leading. And for a quick update on the Extreme 3 OF tent. As part of the Adventure Guide Program, I go on many field trips. The most recent was to the San Rafeal Reef in Utah to learn canyoneering. Very similar skill sets to mountaineering, but in a very new environment for me. I took along the OF tent, and set it up next to the school's Keltys and North Faces. For two full days out of four, the wind blew. HARD. Gusting up to 30 MPH, according to the guages at Goblin Valley State Park. The three pole design of the Extreme made it sit there like a rock through the wind storm. The Kelty tents collapsed. Yes, collapsed. The North Face (4 Season, even) shook, twisted and made a lot of noise shaking in the wind. Every instructor and student commented on the quality of the design of the Extreme 3 OF and how it stood like a rock through all of the storms. As a result, I think the school may be looking into a single purchase of at least six of these tents for their gear closet. But mostly, I wanted to let you know about my updated status and the update on the incredible performance of this tent. Please let me know if you have any questions about this trip for clarification.Written by Eric H. on Wed 27 Apr 2011 7:06:58 PM GMT
